Ismael Ortega is the chief detective for the NYPD in all things involving mutants. He always viewed himself as a good cop, he worked hard and he got the job done. He also considered himself a good husband to his wife, Armena, and a great father to his children, Chamayra and Esteban. His life was clear sailing until he was betrayed by the one man on the force he felt he could trust, Gus Kucharsky, who annihilated everything he knew. Now, Izzy's trying to set his ife back on track, one case at a time.

Thomas Corsi once found himself like any other man in the NYPD. He wanted to work his way through the ranks and aspired to be the man his father had been. But those dreams were changed when he, alongside nurse Sharon Friedlander, found himself caught in the midst of a battle between the New Mutants and the Demon Bear. Tom was transformed from a normal white man to a genetically-enhanced Native American. In the aftermath, he worked with the X-Men and resided at the Institute before finally returning to the NYPD.
