In an effort to defend a facility he was guarding, SHIELD Academy graduate Wendell Vaughn donned the Quantum Bands worn by the original Marvel Boy, discovering the secret to unlocking their power was a flexible will. First calling himself Marvel Boy and later Marvel Man, Wendell eventually settled on the name Quasar. After journeying to Uranus and encountering the being known as Eon, Quasar discovered the Quantum Bands were to be worn by the Protector of the Universe, a title Eon offered to him and he accepted.
