In the 1950s, Jack Monroe ingested an experimental Super Soldier Serum to become the second Bucky, even taking on James Barnes' civilian identity. However, both he and William Burnside were mentally unstable and eventually had to be put in suspended animation. Awakened decades later, Monroe was eventually cured of his mental instability whereas Burnside went on to become the Grand Director. Monroe instead took on Steve Rogers' former identity of Nomad. When he recently uncovered the existence of Control, Nomad was tasked by Nick Fury to create a secret unit to combat them.
NOMAD
A former soldier as well as a mercenary, James "Rhodey" Rhodes has long been a close friend to Tony Stark. On more than one occasion, Rhodes even took control of the Iron Man armor, serving as Stark's substitute and even running Stark Industries for a time. Eventually, Rhodey was given the War Machine, his own suit of armor, which he used both as a solo hero and as a member of the West Coast Avengers. Although he had retired from superheroics, Rhodes has recently suited up as War Machine once more to join Nomad's new Secret Avengers unit.
WAR MACHINE
After her parents were killed in a fire, Natasha Romanoff was raised by Ivan Petrovich and the USSR's Black Widow Ops program in the Red Room facility. Due to bio- and psychotechnological enhancements, Romanoff's aging has been slowed. At first she worked as a spy for the Russian government, coming into conflict with both Iron Man and the Avengers. But eventually she defected to the United States and served as an Avenger and Champion as well as enjoying a partnership with Daredevil. As a SHIELD agent, she served as a liaison with Interpol recently before joining Nomad's team.
BLACK WIDOW
At a young age, Jessica Drew was poisoned by radiation while living near ount Wundagore. To save her life, her father injected her with an experimental serum utlizing irradiated spider DNA. Although this didn't have any effect, she was placed into a genetic accelerator by the High Evolutionary. Although decades had passed, Drew was only seventeen years old. She worked for Hydra but reformed when she learned their true nature. After losing her powers, Drew became a private investigator and mentor to her successor, Mattie Franklin. Now through unknown means, her powers have returned.
SPIDER-WOMAN
Having worked as both the captain of a cargo ship and a lieutenant in the harbor patrol, Monica Rambeau's life changed forever when she was bombarded by the rays from an other-dimensional energy-tapping device. With the ability to transform her body into energy, Monica became a full-time adventurer and learned to control her powers with help from Spider-Man and Iron Man. She joined the Avengers as the second Captain Marvel. She eventually relinquished the Captain Marvel name to the original's son, Genis and took on the name Photon. After a recent stint with Interpol, she was recruited to Nomad's team.
PHOTON
A biochemist at Tony Stark's Baltimore factory, Dr. Bill Foster was hired as a lab assistant to Hank Pym. While Pym was stuck at a height of ten feet, Bill helped him find a cure at the behest of Stark and later investigated the seeming deaths of Hank and Janet Van Dyne. Eventually relocating to the west coast, Bill acquired the formula to the Pym Particles which gave him the ability to increase his size like his former employer. Originally calling himself Black Goliath, he has worked alongsde the Defenders, Champions and Avengers. Now he has brought his scientific knowledge to Nomad's Secret Avengers.
GOLIATH
Son of a hardline black cop and a Jewish mother, Kevin Cole followed in his father's footsteps and joined the police force. His peers on the force nicknamed him Kasper because of his light skin. As a cop, he was forced to support both his mother and his pregnant girlfriend, Gwen. Hungry for promotion, he carried out unauthorized drug busts and discovered a bulletproof Black Panther costume which he used for an edge. After being advised by the Falcon, Kasper was offered a synthetic version of the herbs which give T'Challa his powers and became the White Tiger of the Panther Cult.
WHITE TIGER
Eric O'Grady is a man of flexible morality. As an agent of SHIELD, he was skilled in espionage and wetworks, specializing in assassinations. When he discovered Ant-Man technology developed by Hank Pym in a SHIELD storage facility, he stole it in order to achieve his own selfish desires. With the armor, O'Grady became a thief and a freelance mercenary before he was eventually apprehended by SHIELD. O'Grady was offered a choice by Jack Monroe—either be sentenced to a superhuman detention facility or join the Secret Avengers as Ant-Man.
ANT-MAN
For years, Phil Coulson has worked as a SHIELD deep cover agent, traveling the world and going into various hot spots for wetworks and espionage-based missions. At one point, Coulson worked alongside Eric O'Grady and the two worked well together as a skilled team. However, when O'Grady stole the Ant-Man armor and went rogue, Coulson was tasked to bring him in, which he was able to accomplish successfully. Now, Coulson has been appointed as the link between Nomad's Secret Avengers and Nick Fury. Other than Fury, Coulson is the only one aware of the Secret Avengers' connection with SHIELD.
